St. Catherine Hospital is a 190-bed facility and is located in the heart of a historic residential neighborhood. The facility has been a leading healthcare provider since it opened its doors in 1928. In 2001 St. Catherine Hospital joined the Community Healthcare system, they continue to share in the strong vision of caring to help those in need and improve the overall quality of life in the Northwest Indiana region. Many "first-ever" procedures have been performed over the years at St. Catherine Hospital due to the collaboration between doctors, nurses, staff and the community.

The emergency department has an annual volume of 31,000 with 19 beds. The hospital has excellent back up coverage and the admission rate is approximately 15%. The ED has 32-hours of physician coverage daily, with 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts. There is an additional 16-hours of coverage daily provided by Nurse Practitioners in a designated fast track area. Moonlighting is available for final year residents.  Clinicians utilize the EMR Epic™.

East Chicago, Indiana is located 24 miles from Chicago’s city center. The city is on the move with new economic and social initiatives, and is infused with great energy from the “City on the Lake”. East Chicago is home to the Indiana Yacht Club as well as the East Chicago Marina, which offers charter services throughout the year.
