The Rose de Lima Campus of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals has been recognized by Avatar International, an industry leader in healthcare quality improvement services, as one of its most innovative hospital partners in 2010, based on 2009 performance.

 "The staff at Rose de Lima has done an exceptional job of improving patient experiences by implementing innovative practices," said Val Baciarelli, president of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals - Rose de Lima Campus. "Receiving the Gold Innovation Award from a research company of Avatar International's caliber is incredibly rewarding."

One important initiative branded "Express Care" was designed to decrease wait times for emergency care and was based on the EMP (Emergency Medicine Physicians) model PhysicianFirst.  Express Care allows patients to be evaluated in the triage area by an Emergency Physician who may order tests, admission or medications immediately.  Patients who are less ill will are also evaluated quickly and released.  This process has allowed patients who present to the St. Rose de Lima ED to be seen generally within 30 minutes by a physician.

Lance Allgower, DO, FACEP, is Site Director for the Rose de Lima Emergency Department.  Along with Dr Rick Henderson, Medical Director, and Dr Jeff Bracey, Assistant Medical Director, Dr Allgower's leadership and vision were critical in developing the Express Care model for the ED.  Dr. Allgower also initiated the Emergency Ultrasound Program for EPMG and trained the emergency physician group in the use of focused emergency ultrasound at the bedside.  He continues to serve as the Director of Emergency Ultrasound and Operations for all three St. Rose campuses.  Dr. Allgower has served with EPMG since 2002.
