What excites/interests you most about the field of emergency medicine or future of healthcare?
We find ourselves at a moment of great change—demand for services is growing, pressure to reduce cost is mounting, and the way in which practices are reimbursed is evolving. But with change, comes opportunity for those who adapt. I think we’re in an exciting position to grow as a result.

Which EPMG value do you identify with most?
Partnership. EPMG has been in business over 40 years and longevity like that requires partnership with your customers. It’s been my experience that a longstanding partnership does not mean that there are no challenges, it simply means that both sides have a trust in each other and a willingness to work together to overcome those challenges.

If you had to describe yourself in two words, what would they be?
Introspective & independent.

One thing most people don’t know about you.
I’m a “chord-cutter”—meaning I no longer have cable TV. It’s been an interesting process to re-direct time I used to spend watching TV. I definitely read more than I did before I made the change.

What is a recent book that you have read and would recommend that is relevant to your work/field?
Think Like a Freak by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. It’s a book about non-traditional thinking as a means of solving problems. It speaks to how personal and societal biases influence our approach to problems and how these biases can limit our ability to see clearly.

What and where was your favorite vacation?
Glacier National Park. It’s great family time because of its remote location—everyone is forced to put their electronics away. The scenery is beautiful, the hiking is outstanding, and we even saw a few grizzly bear!
